Seventh Sunday of Easter

My dear parishioners and friends of our parish community: Jesus Christ Is Risen! Alleluia! Alleluia! He is truly Risen! Alleluia! Alleluia!

This weekend, May 3rd and 4th is COMMITMENT WEEKEND FOR THE ANNUAL BISHOP’S APPEAL 2008 IN THE PARISHES THROUGHOUT THE DIOCESE OF NORWICH.

All Catholics in the Diocese are asked by His Excellency, Most Reverend Michael Richard Cote, D.D., Bishop of Norwich to help fund the ministries and agencies funded by the Annual Bishop’s Appeal 2008.

It is often said that the ABA is the “life-line” of our diocesan family! It is really good people like yourselves, reaching out to help others in need. So many members of our diocesan family are helped because YOU reach out through generous support of this special Springtime Appeal.

St. John’s designated Parish Goal this year is $29,900.00. In the Advanced Gifts and Pledges we have already raised over $10,000.00 toward our goal. This leaves St. John’s to raise today the sum of $19,000. In past years, the good people of St. John’s have always surpassed the ABA goal. Last year, we even increased our participation!

I am confident that with your help and generosity today, we can meet our ABA Goal! I ask that each of you return your ABA Gift/Pledge card today in our Second Collection basket. I am fully aware that we are living in very difficult and economically-challenging times. A fill-up today at the gas pump can reach nearly $100.00! It may mean a great sacrifice for you, but I am sure that Almighty God will bless you as you decide how best to support this year’s Annual Bishop’s Appeal 2008.

With the generous help of all and not just a few, we can reach our Goal and even surpass it! Remember, the Lord loves a cheerful giver! Think about how much good YOU can do for someone in need right here in our own diocese! Then act! Take a brief moment to fill out your pledge card and return it to us this weekend! Thank you in advance for your generous support of the Annual Bishop’s Appeal 2008. May the Good Lord bless you today!

Devotedly,
Fr. Jim
