Twenty-First Sunday of Ordinary Time

My dear parishioners and friends of our parish community:  Praised be Jesus Christ!  Now and forever!

We welcome again to St. John Church Father Ephrem Karwowski, Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, in service at St. Pius X Friary here in Middletown, who is covering all our weekend Masses during my Summer Vacation weeks in Poland.  Please continue to make Father Ephrem welcome at St. John’s.

In Poland, August 26th is the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary under her beloved title of Our Lady of Czestochowa.  Czestochowa is a city in southwestern Poland.  On August 26th, in the year of Our Lord 1382, a beautiful icon of the Mother of God was brought to the city of Czestochowa, Poland and kept under the protection of an order of monks known as the Pauline Fathers and Brothers.  The Holy Icon of the Virgin Mary is housed in the monastery chapel up on a hill high above the city of Czestochowa.  This hill is called “Jasna Gorna” or “Bright Mountain.”

Through the centuries, when invaders from Poland tried to steal or desecrate this image, it never was harmed!  Many miraculous happenings continue to take place for all the faithful who come to pray and ask the help and intercessions of Our Blessed Mother. Here at Czestochowa, the Blessed Virgin Mary is crowned as the Queen of Poland.

On August 26th, 2008, millions are expected to come for this Solemn Feast Day.  I will pray for all of you at Mass before the Miraculous Icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa, while I am here on vacation in Poland.

On the occasion of my Ordination to the Priesthood and my First Mass back in May of 1991I dedicated my whole priesthood to the Blessed Mother under her title of Our Lady of Czestochowa.  She has been a constant support through all my years as a priest.  I know she will help you too!  Our Lady of Czestochowa, Queen of Poland, pray for us!

I fly back home to the U.S.A. on Friday, August 29th, 2009, leaving Krakow, Poland (city of Pope John Paul II) to Warsaw, Poland, and flying directly back to JFK International Airport in New York.  Please pray for my safe flight back to the United States.  God willing, I will see you all the weekend of August 30th and 31st.  Until then…z Panem Bogiem…stay with God!

                                                                                                                                Summer Blessings to you all!

 Always, Father Jim
